In 1999, the long-standing keeper of the Road’s conscience, the late Berta Hall, came up with an insistent idea: we needed to find away of commemorating the looming new Millennium.  And so a celebratory mug was created by the artist and architect Janet Payne. The venture raised several hundred pounds for Shelter, and some of them, at least, are still in daily use:
